Antonio Di Bernardo is an Italian and European patent and trademark attorney who represents clients in trademark, patent and design matters before the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the World Intellectual Property Organisation and the European Patent Office. He is also a patent litigator qualified for representing clients before the Unitary Patent Court.

Mr. Di Bernardo graduated in electronic engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan, specialising in the physical and mathematical aspects of electronics. In particular, he worked on a thesis about laser transmission, which gave him the opportunity to collaborate with the department of plasma physics of the University of Milan and the Paris South University. He also obtained a master’s degree in IP management.

Mr. Di Bernardo began his career in the field of installation of mobile networks and telecommunication plants. His university training and work experience led him to become an IP attorney specialised in patents for software, telecommunications and physics, gaining at the same time experience in drafting and defending mechanical patents while working for companies in the field of white goods. He has a huge experience in SEPs (Standard Essential Patents) having made essentiality evaluations and having litigated important telecom SEPs and followed transactions concerning IP rights, working on due diligence operations, economic evaluation of patents, registration of transfers and pledges relating to patents, and others.

Mr. Di Bernardo has assisted firms in civil cases involving telecommunication networks and in civil and criminal proceedings in the field of software.

He has worked as a technical court expert in patent and software (computer forensics) litigations, analysing the content of databases and software written in different programming languages. He has assisted public prosecutors in Milan and Ancona with evaluations in the field of trademarks, designs, and patents.

Mr. Di Bernardo was professor at the University La Statale of Milan and is co-author of the books “Patents and Industrial Property” and “Artificial Intelligence and Patents: An International Perspective on Patenting AI-Related Inventions”.
