Claire Laporte is an Intellectual Property Fellow at Ginkgo Bioworks and Ginkgo’s former Head of Intellectual Property. She designed Ginkgo’s IP strategy and oversaw its implementation until the end of 2023. Claire serves on internal strategic and R&D review committees and also assists Ginkgo in addressing policy issues relevant to intellectual property and synthetic biology, including issues relating to patent and industrial policy and biodiversity. 

Previously, Claire served the life science industry as a trial lawyer in private practice focusing on patent and trade secret cases.  She also leveraged her litigation knowledge to help life science companies with a range of transactional issues.  Claire has spoken widely on the role of intellectual property in both industrial policy and health care, including at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, Harvard University, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and other institutions.
