Cherie Van Wensveen

Commercialisation & IP
CSIRO

Cherie is a Commercialisation Manager for CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency) supporting the translation of research to the market, in the resources sector.

A registered patent attorney working in private practice for 6 years, Cherie very quickly developed a keen interest in how to leverage IP into successful business ventures, which led to a career focus on commercialisation. Her technical background is chemistry (BSc. Hons) and hydrometallurgy (PhD) which has served her well for her in-house roles with resources-focussed companies over the past (almost) 20 years, including Minara Resources, Glencore, BHP, Hatch and now supporting research commercialisation with CSIRO.

Cherie sits on the board of MRead Pty Ltd, a technology start-up in the defence sector with a breakthrough technology for detection of explosives and drugs (their immediate focus is landmine detection).  She is also on the board of Micah Projects, a not-for-profit organisation with a focus on advocating for vulnerable members of the community for improved access to housing, healthcare, safety and justice.

Cherie is currently President-Elect of the Australia & New Zealand chapter, LESANZ, and has been a member since 2006.
